Praise for Sweet Child of Mine 'A simple, joyful expression of love at all hours and through all seasons.' -Kirkus Reviews Praise for Ten Tiny Toes' The brief, lyrical text, the opportunities for interactivity and the focus on a subject dear to toddlers' hearts -themselves and all their glorious parts -make this a candidate for repeat readings. The song was my song to my dead babies,” he writes. ![]() “I made that up after my wife and I had two babies born dead. “Love You Forever started as a song,” Munsch writes on his website. ![]() The story ends with the son singing his mother’s lullaby to his baby daughter, implying that the cycle will go on for parents and children for generations to come.īut there’s a sad backstory to Munsch’s story, which surprisingly sold very well in retirement communities. When the mother grows frail and sick, her adult son sings a slightly different lullaby to her, promising to love her unconditionally after her death. ![]() Published in 1986, Robert Munsch writes that every night, even when the boy is badly behaved, his mother comes into his room, holds him in her arms, and sings him a lullaby. As he grows older and leaves home, she still comes into his room sometimes to sing the same words. The children’s book Love You Forever tells the moving story of the relationship between a boy and his mother. ![]()

Josephine by Patricia Hruby Powell6/9/2023 ![]() Although Powell's focus is on Baker, the contrast between segregated America and welcoming France will not be lost on readers. Robinson's naif, folk-style figures look like puppets, and make some grim moments easier to endure ("Those ugly rumors incited some white folks/ to beat, murder, and burn black East St. Louis childhood surrounded by music to her triumphs all over Europe followed, sadly, by debt and illness. The best of cordwainer smith6/8/2023 ![]() ![]() Quite a departure from the fixation on cats that appeared in most of the previous stories. His godfather was Sun Yat-sen, the founder of the Republic of China. citizen, he grew up mostly in China, Japan, France, and Germany. Putting aside for the moment some amusement about a member of the Mercer family being sent to eternal punishment for treasonous crimes, this is an excellent examination of the notion of retribution, and of the cruelty and humanity that organically arise within any system of justice. Cordwainer Smith was the pen name of Paul Myron Anthony Linebarger, born in Milwaukee in 1913. The highlight of the collection is the final story, A Planet Named Shayol. They say that fifty thousand a year were killed on the roads alone. Think of the millions of vehicles that ran on those roads, the people filled with greed and rage and hate, rushing past each other with their engines on fire. So much of it is so dated or so innocent that one gets caught off-guard by the occasional critique of modern life: Don't think about the roads. ![]() I don't go in for short stories or mythical far future stuff to begin with. At first I just found it not my cup of tea. Whoa, I file this under giving-sci-fi-a-bad-name. The most complete collection of Smith's stories is The Rediscovery of Man. ![]() Pretty odd stuff, a lot of it downright silly - like the existence of mind-destroying monsters in the space between stars, and mankind's use of cats to combat them. Review: The Best of Cordwainer Smith (Instrumentality of Mankind) User Review - Rebecca Edwards - Goodreads. ![]()
